Cassiopeia Books in Great Falls holds two events celebrating animals starting next week.

Last Chain on BillieOn Tuesday, the independent bookstore holds “A Celebration of Man’s Best Friend” starting at 6 p.m. The event will feature music, dog poetry and lots of treats. It’s also a fundraiser for the Pet Paw-See animal rescue group that helps find homes for pets without one.

Then, next Thursday, starting at 7 p.m., the bookstore welcomes acclaimed local author Carol Bradley for an author’s reading. Refreshments will be provided by Electric City Coffee.

Bradley’s first book, “Saving Gracie,” documented the true story of one dog’s rescue from a Pennsylvania puppy mill. Her second book, “Last Chain on Billie:  How One Extraordinary Elephant Escaped the Big Top” follows a similar story, but this time it documents how Billie the elephant was able to escape her tormenters in the circus industry as part of the largest elephant rescue in American history and how she made it to a sanctuary for performing elephants in Tennessee.

Both events are  free to the public. For more information, check out Cassiopeia Books on Facebook.
