ICF 18On Saturday, 221 Industries welcomes three professional MMA fighters from Brazil to take on three Americans in what’s being billed as “ICF 18: Brazil vs. USA.”

One of the interesting aspects of this fight is that the three men from Brazil coming here do not speak any English.

In a way, that could be an advantage for them because they will not understand what the average fan is yelling at them.

And now, I do not usually take sides when it comes to these fights, but seeing as I am a Montanan and an American, I naturally want to see the people I know from the country I call home do well.

Therefore, I’ve come up with a list of key Portuguese phrases that one might try screaming at the fighters when they take the cage on Saturday night at the Pacific Steel and Recycling Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls.

Some of these are meant to be funny, some are meant to be serious and some are for the folks who might want to secretly root for the Brazilians but don’t want anyone around them knowing.

So, here I present a guide to key Portuguese phrases to use during ICF 18, along with their English translations.

  • Você não é tão forte.
    (You’re not so tough!)
  • Brincadeira, você é extremamente forte, por favor, deixe-me ir.
(Just kidding, you’re really strong, please let me go.)
  • Minha mãe poderia derrota em você.
    (My mother could beat you)
  • EUA lutadores são os melhores lutadores.
(USA fighters are the best fighters.)
  • Vá para casa estrangeiro.
    (Go home foreigner!)
  • Você chama isso de um soco?
    (You call that a punch?)
(That maneouver you attempted, while impressive, will not be enough to take down the talented young Montana fighter, who is much stronger than you are good sir.)
  • Sowell vontade bagunçar tudo
    (Sowell will funk you up!)
  • Hey Alves, eu realmente, realmente gosto de você.
(Hey Alves, I really really like you.)
(Put your hands up, make them touch, touch)
  • Você quer um corpo quente? Você quer um Bugatti? Você quer um Maserati? Você quer Josh Wright bater? É melhor cadela trabalho.
(You want a hot body, you want a Bugatti, you want a Maserati? You want to beat Josh Wright? You better work bitch.)
  • Eu te amo cara, você vai casar comigo, por favor?
(I love you! Will you marry me?)
(Welcome to Montana, now prepare to lose!)
(What would you like to drink with that order of defeat?)
  • Eu quero fugir, me leve com você!
(I want to escape, take me with you!)
(Around here, the only language we speak is ‘Murican.)
Eu amo o Brasil, honesto.
(No, please, don’t hurt me, I love Brazil, honest.)
(Good luck in your match, you’re going to need it!)
  • Parabéns, senhor, você lutou, uma luta limpa feira.
(Congratulations sir, you fought a good clean bout.)
  • Pode me ajudar a falar a sua língua melhor? Chame-me, aqui está o meu número.
(Can you help me speak your language better? Call me, here’s my number!)
(Leave my girlfriend alone or else I’ll act like I’m tougher than you even though I’m not.)
(Thank you for coming and putting on a wonderful show, we appreciate it)
